Environment Day-2018

     The UN environment-led global event includes a theme every year. The Theme for the year 2018 is BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION. This year it is a special one because India hosts the WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY.

The best friend of earth of man is the tree. When we use the tree respectfully and economically, we have one of the greatest resources on the earth.

Soroptimist International, Madurai and Mahatma schools Madurai celebrated WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY on 5.06.2018. The theme was “ENLIVEN ENVIRON”. The Inauguration started at Gandhi Museum by taking oath. The Chief Guest Shri. K. VEERA RAGHAVA RAO, IAS, Madurai District Collector, flagged off the cycle rally to create an awareness among the public about the environmental degradation caused due to plastic use.  Around 200 students who participated in the rally accompanied by 100 Students and 50 Teachers on foot with placards distributed pamphlets. The entire group reached the school premises for valedictory.

Valedictory started with a prayer song, followed by welcome address and Introduction of the Chief Guest. The Senior principal honoured the Chief Guest. Mahatma choir sang a few songs on how to maintain a clean environment and help Mother Earth to GO GREEN. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering, and stressed on the responsibility of each and every person in taking care of the environment and to keep it clean. He insisted every young mind to think of planting more number of trees. The senior principal addressed the gathering, and promised that Mahatma will be supporting in planting trees. The programme ended with the vote of Thanks by president of the Soroptimist International followed by national anthem.
